2004 Tom Anderson Drop Top

Tom Anderson is a name spoken in hushed tones among serious players. Built by hand in small numbers in Southern California, Anderson guitars are the quiet choice of touring professionals and studio veterans the world over — and they almost never come up for sale here. This 2004 Drop Top is a genuinely special find.

Why it's worth it: this is about as good as a bolt-on electric gets. A carved, figured maple top over basswood in a breathtaking Deep Ocean to Black Burst with binding, an immaculate hard rock maple neck, and Anderson's own SD1R / SD1 / H2+ pickups through a 5-way with mini-switch splits — glassy single-coil chime to fat humbucking power in one instrument. It plays effortlessly, holds its value, and does absolutely everything.
